The Ving Tsun Gung Fu Institute is a semi private Wing Chun training class in the Rio Grande Valley. Our schedule is generally on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 pm to 830 pm. Classes are structured so that all students of any level from beginning to intermediate and advanced cnl all learn and train. Hence, the instructional method is differentiated instruction.
Before being allowed to train an informal interview is required in which the following questions should be addressed
1) How did you find out about us and Wing Chun?
2) Do you have any previous martial art training? If so, what Art and how long were you training in it?
3) Why do you want to learn wing chun? That is, what are you looking to get out of learning this art?
from here, usually students will be invited to check out one class to see if they will be ok with the instruction location(s) and methods. Some training requires solo performance and the ability to apply teaching through form training. I unapologetically teach Kung Fu the traditional way through the forms as my Sifu Matt Johnson has handed them down to me and his Sifu, Ip Ching, has handed them down to him. I do not cut corners and students must learn to see the reliance on the information and principles that are gained through the form training in order to appreciate their applicability in chi sau and ultimately into self defense situations.
Applicants must also be able to get along with other students. One thing that will stunt growth more than anything is ego. Wing Chun training involves many drills and training exercises that involve contact with a training partner. All students are required to help each other grow in their training. Intentional striking to cause harm will not be tolerated.
Upon being accepted into the training group, all applicants are required to fill out an application for the Matt Johnson Ving Tsun Martial Art Association which requires a recent passport photo to be attached to the application as well as a $75 lifetime membership fee as well as the first months tuition which is $55 and to be paid on first week of each month.
Any questions that would further like to be discussed with myself about the training can be discussed in the informal interview. For more information feel free to call Sifu Moses Flores at 956-207-1811
